evaluation
Evaluation:
FUNCTION-
Does the artefact do what it is designed to do?
Yes the desk tidy does what I wanted it to do because it holds many items and will help clean up my desk.
Does it perform effectively and efficiently?
Yes it does work effectively as it holds everything I wanted it to hold in a small space that doesn't take up much room on my desk.
What improvements could be made?
A lot of improvements could be made, I can make it smaller to take up less space on my desk and I could make it hold more stuff. I would make it more fluro colours like pink and orange and I would lastly design it to have and iphone and ipad holder.
AESTHETICS-
I am very happy with my desk tidy because it has very bright colours and it will go with my white room. It will suite my room as it is a contrasting colour and will stand out. It is a suitable size and will fit on my desk easily. The shape of my desk tidy is very simple but very modern and I chose it because it keeps with the latest fashion designs for desk tidy’.
ERGONOMICS-
My desk tidy is very light weight and fits on my desk perfectly being very convenient. In terms of safety, there will be no problems as I glue it down with very strong glue and will not be a safety hazard as it will not fall apart. The only safety issue that needs to be considered when using my desk tidy is that there are a few sharp edges on the corners of my desk tidy but they can easily be fixed but using sandpaper and smoothing them off.
ECONOMICS-
This desk tidy was very cost effective being very cheap although it took sometime to make it.
1 acrylic sheet= 122cm x 244cm
0.08885m2 (how much used) x 29768 (size of 1 sheet) x $95.70 =
0.08885m2 x 29768 x 95.70 = $2.85
question 4
Question 4.
Working out:
29.5cm x 21cm = 619.5cm²
10cm x 4.5cm x 4 = 180cm²
3cm x 4cm = 12cm²
7cm x 5.5cm = 38.5cm²
7cm x 5.5cm = 38.5cm²
12cm + 38.5cm² + 38.5cm² = 89cm²
619.5 + 180 + 89 = 888.5cm²
888.5cm² = 0.08885m²
For my desk tidy I used a total of 0.08885m²
question 3:
Question 3:
1. Granules of plastic powder (note the plastics listed above) are poured or fed into a hopper which stores it until it is needed.
2. A heater heats up the tube and when it reaches a high temperature a screw thread starts turning.
3. A motor turns a thread which pushes the granules along the heater section which melts then into a liquid. The liquid is forced into a mould where it cools into the shape (in this case a DVD storage unit).
4. The mould then opens and the unit is removed.
